Introduction

Youkai Academy is just your not-so-regular RPG game that I thought of. Being the complete jerk I am, this game that I have created, and might never be published, is unnecessarily hard, with the game constantly reminding you how weak your character is. Also, please be warned that there is no Fourth Wall in this game, and the characters (including your own) will openly snark about you. However, those who do play this game will not be disappointed, as there is almost no grinding needed, large amounts of quests, several thousand over characters (with only a select few hundred in a single playthrough), and a need for excessive amounts of strategy. You must balance work and play in this game, knowing when to goof off during school days to read up on things or train and knowing when your help is needed. Of course, I have a design cover in my head which looks just like a Visual Novel, but not really.

Just for the record, this IS an RPG game.

Expect to be alone for most of the adventure. You won't get anyone else in your party except one other partner, or up to three if you're a Foocubus. Nevertheless, you're going to need some degree of technique and in-depth knowledge in order to beat this game. To get a partner, you have to go through the old dating-simulation style of obtaining their affection such as talking to them everyday, buying gifts, etc.

The currency in this game is called Kris. It's an old term in the history of Alandia, the world where Youkai Academy is based in, where it meant power. Money really is a big thing here as you will get damaged very easily, as well as the fact that the damage can be very severe, even to melee fighters. Due to so much fighting going on, mana and health potions are dirt cheap in Alandia, and expect to use them often, maybe after every battle. Another reason why it's dirt cheap is because it's practically alchemized air, so it's plentiful.

The battle layout is 2 3x2 grids: one for you and your opponent. As the battlefield is small, it might get crowded if you're fighting multiple enemies. All attacks, magic and weapons have a certain range that they hit. Once your turn begins, the first attacker determined by the SPD stat, you are allowed to move ONE SQUARE. This movement allows you to move out of the opponent's range, as there might be obstacles in your or their playfield, or get your opponents into your range. If there is no one in the back row, they are immediately shifted to the front row. Use this knowledge to get as many opponents into your range as possible, or yourself out of their range.

When not studying, reading up history in the library, or fighting, there are plenty of minigames to keep yourself busy. However, expect the games to be about as easy as a Touhou shooter on Hard, which is pretty damn difficult if you ask me. However, it uses money to play them, so it might be more productive of you to do something else than playing video games (irony intended). The history of Alandia is a very interesting and humorous one. I'll guarantee you that you might find it a little hilarious, albeit the fact that it is the history of a country. Plenty of sidequests can engage you as well, as most of them come with rather hefty rewards... unlike some RPGs I know. If that's not enough, you can pick up alchemy items and practice alchemy. Who knows, even the simplest rock can be alchemized to be one of the most valuable accessories in the game(It is).

However, I've also started a Youkai Academy spinoff called Youkai Academy: Endless School Days, where you play as transfer student Kimitomo Kobayashi, and you lead him with several events in the game, getting a girlfriend, blah blah blah. Basically, a typical Visual Novel you can pick up on the streets. Except that I'm going to make the minigames hard as balls, and the events might not be what they seem to be.
